"Damaris! Damaris!"
Damaris Withers shrank back against the hard boards of the attic wall that supported her back.
(From A Woman Named Damaris by Janette Oke)
It has been a couple of years since I've read Janette Oke, but when I last read her, I admired her writing greatly--the way she so accurately depicted real life. And A Woman Named Damaris was one of my absolute favorites.

I adore Janette Oke as well!
I read A Woman Named Damaris years ago. Good book!
Have a great reading weekend!
It's been a while since I've read Janette Oak. Clearly Damaris is not wanting to be found by whomever is calling her.
Here's mine:
A Most Inconvenient Marriage by Regina Jennings
February 1865
Gratiot Street Prison
St. Louis, Missouri
“First, you’re going to write a good-bye letter to my sweetheart, and then you’re going to marry me.”
I love Janette Oke! Have you read the Love Comes Softly series?
@Caryl - love that first line!! Thanks for sharing!
@Beth - isn't she great?!
@Andie - thanks! I have three books I'm in the middle of. ;P I told myself I wouldn't do that to myself again. ;)
@Kathleen - yep. I almost shared the next sentence too... ;)
@English Mysteries - YES! I've read almost all of Janette Oke's books (missing maybe two of her originals, not counting the new When Calls the Heart series based on the show). I think my favorites in Love Comes Softly were books 3-4 with Missy. ;)
I think I must be a rare breed in Christian fiction readers--someone who hasn't read any Janette Oke! (Except for one of the novels she co-wrote with Davis Bunn)
My first line is from Karen Sargent's upcoming release, Waiting For Butterflies:
'Maggie heard the key in the front door and looked at the clock on the nightstand: 1:48 a.m. Nearly twenty-four hours had passed since the phone had jarred her awake and Sam out of bed."
@ Fiction Aficionado - haha! That's funny. She's got a completely different style when she solo writes than when she's written with T. Daviss Bunn. Hers are the great, down-to-earth, very realistic fiction type. :)
Such an intriguing first line. Thanks for sharing!
Oh I adore your graphics!!! Happy Friday!
@ Rachel - thank you very much! :)
Love her books!!
Rachel stole my compliment! I love the graphics you have for you books. I am so graphics-challenged, even my FLF graphic is a bit of a hot mess.
@ Rachel - seems like we like a few similar authors. ;)
@ Sarah - haha! Thank you so much! I do enjoy graphics design. Kind of a relaxing hobby for me. :)
