Word Wednesday #46

As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.
(Daniel 9:13)

Two important things come before understanding God's truth: turning from our iniquity and coming to God in prayer.

Thanks for sharing, Amanda! I can think of instances where this has true in my own walk with Christ.

"Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth...
But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ."
~ 1 Corinthians 8:1,9,11 & 12

Recently, Jesus has shown me that I have a area of pride where I feel a "need" to prove I'm right when I came across a doctrine, belief or opinion that I disagree with. While we are to prove all things, Jesus is revealing to me that knowledge without charity can cause our brother to stumble. Which begs this question: How do I use knowledge (even Bible knowledge)? To edify or to tear down?

@ Kenzi,

True of me as well. :/ This is an area that Bro. Thomas has been teaching/preaching about a lot recently (weak consciences, specifically) and an area in which I must learn SO much more!

Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:11

That's a great point, Amanda!

I hope it's not "cheating" to share the verses from our Bible study at church tonight, but the Lord really spoke to me through them.

First of all " Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth:... " Joshua 24:14a

And then "When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also."
II Timothy 1:5

The two key thoughts here being "sincerity and truth" and "unfeigned faith". This goes back to what we were talking about the other night, about how I like to please people. Many times I can put on a good show, or do the right thing so people will be impressed with me, but I want my motive of service to be out of love for the Lord, and a desire to please HIM!!! This is definitely an area I need to grow in.

@ Janell,

Not cheating at all. :) I'm glad you shared them. :)

I just did a mini-study on "Sincerity and Truth" so your Joshua verse made me smile. Amen! We all need more work in those areas!!
