Word Wednesday #39

"Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." (Mark 9:23)

Ironically, we must believe this verse - we must believe that all things are possible when we believe.

Thanks for sharing, Amanda! This is such a black and white verse and what is encouraging to me is the verse that follows:
"And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."

There have been times when I've echoed these words and what a comfort to know we can cry out for strength to obey God's word!

"Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:"
~ 2 Corinthians 10:1

Despite his position as an apostle, Paul chose not to lord his authority over the Believers and instead approach them in meekness and gentleness. Do I follow this example toward those under my influence (siblings, younger friends, new believers, etc.) or do I lord my authority over those God has given to my trust?

" For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth." verse 18

@ Kenzi,

Yes, I have echoed the father's plea SO often! And God is always faithful to help. He's so good! :)

2 Corinthians 10:1 reminds me of a verse we covered in Sunday School: "Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." (Matthew 11:29) What we are to "learn of" Christ is not His authority, not His power - but His meekness, His lowliness.

But back to your comment, very thought-provoking questions (ouch)! How easy it is to "lord ourselves" over those under us! May we have more of a Christ-like spirit!!!

does it have to be one He gave me today?? :) :) :) Because Monday He BLEW ME AWAY with one I've known inside and outside all my life, and was really made real for the first time! I'm so stressed out and full of anxiety about college right now, and Monday morning, before I even got going for the day, it was like, "isn't there a verse about being ANXIOUS (CAREFUL) for NOTHING!?!?!?!" Yup. "Duh" moment! :) It was pretty wonderful :)

@ Katie,

No, it could be a verse for this week (mine actually isn't from today :)).

Philippians 4:6? Oh, but don't we need that reminder every time? I have found that just because I "know" a verse doesn't mean that I KNOW it. :) God is so good to remind us of what we need when we need it. :)

Hey Amanda,
Sorry I'm late! :-(

Here are the verses the Lord brought to my attention.

Luke 4:22-24
And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.
And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

This passage stood out to me because I think it's the attitude we (I) as Christians have. We want God to prove Himself or make a show just for our pleasure or fulfillment, not because of His glory. May we remember to pray in accordance with God's will and that HIS name may be glorified.

@ Janell,

Don't worry about lateness! I enjoy hearing what God has shown you through His Word - even if it is "late" (compared to Wednesday).

Wow. That is an issue that I must continually keep before me - it's about His glory and His glory alone. Thanks for sharing!
