Word Wednesday #31

"Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance." (2 Peter 1:15)

Peter felt a burden to help the church remember ("Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;" 2 Peter 1:12-13). He did what he could to help them remember truth while he was alive, but also thought of how to have that reminder available even after he died. He didn't care if people remembered him, but he did care if they forgot truth.

Thanks for sharing, Amanda! That Peter sought to remind his fellow believers even after his death is something I've never thought about...what an example for us!!

"I, therefore the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
~ Ephesians 4:1-3

A friend and I have been memorizing this passage for the past couple of weeks. As I've been studying it, what the Holy Spirit has been challenging me with is why we are to walk worthy of our high calling. What is the result of walking with lowliness, meekness, longsuffering and loving forbearance?
The answer is given in the next few verses:
"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." verses 4-6

When we walk in a worthy manner, it allows Believers to be one in the Lord and fulfill our calling as the body of Christ. It's been sobering for me to realize that how I walk affects not just my relationship with God, but also my relationship with the body of Christ.

Thanks so much for sharing, Kenzi! Very true, that the way we walk affects not only us but the whole body. And yes - how sobering indeed to realize that my life can hinder the unity of the body!

I love Ephesians - what a great passage to memorize! :)
