I enjoy playing around with photography and graphics designing, but don't make time for it near as often as I'd like. I finally sat down to play with some Scripture Photos. This time, I was trying to learn a few things by trial and error with Photoshop's {many} layers. Some of them gave a unique look that I've not used before. So, one picture, three styles (to see them full-sized, simply click on the picture).
Original |
Style 1 |
Style 2 |
Style 3 |
Now, I'd like your opinion. Which style is your favorite?
And then, as I'm totally experimenting here, please give your input (if you are or are not a photographer)! Does anything look awkward? Any suggestions? You can be critical - I don't mind. ;)

First off, I love the original picture! I'm not crazy about style 1, somehow the coloring looks a little strange, I don't know why. Style 2 is my very favorite, and I like Style 3 really well also. Fun stuff!!! Call me crazy if you want to, but one more thing "bugged" me just a little bit... you didn't capitalize the "P" in Psalms.
:-)
You're doing great though, keep it coming and I'll keep criticizing. :-D
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my Strength, and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14
Thanks for your honest thoughts, Janell! :)
Okay, now for more feedback. ;)
Style 1 - yes, the coloring is strange. :) It is actually a style, but I'm knowledgeable enough to know only that and illiterate enough to know that I don't know WHAT style it is (kind of old-timey). ;)
Style 2 - My favorite too! I love low saturation. It just has a gentle look - as if a calm assurance of the words of the Psalm.
Style 3 - I actually like the style of the picture here best, but I didn't care as much for the text on top (it was too dark).
And . . . I did a lowercase "p" on purpose. I don't know why; I just did it. :) Sorry it bothers you; I like it that way. ;) (cue naughty grin)
Thanks for the critique! I have two more pictures I'm hoping to work on when I catch the time. :)

"Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7
Hi Amanda,
I kind of like the first one better, maybe because I kind of like vibrant colors at times. We also use Photoshop, it can be daunting at first, but you get used to it. I like Adobe Illustrator better, it seems like it's less cumbersome to use (for graphic design).
Thanks, Becky!
I like the first one as well in and of itself, but when compared, it's not the one I'd choose. :) I think if I took off the "dust" layer, it would look more natural.
Hmm . . . I'll keep Adobe Illustrator in mind (my brother had Photoshop already, so saving money here ;)). What type of graphics designing do you do?

Hi Amanda~
Well, as you well know, I'm NOT a photographer, but I know how helpful feedback is, so here is my two cents worth. ;)
First off, I love the original shot! It amazes me how you photographers get such creative ideas and bring a fresh perspective to life's "common" wonders (aiming the camera at grass blowing in the wind is a thought that never would have enter my little brain ;)).
Of the three styles, it was a tough choice between Style 2&3 with 3 finally winning out. The richer color and bold "texture" look of Style 3 is what won me over to it. But I love the soft look of Style 2 and thought they both complimented the message of Psalm 18:30.
Anyway, there is the camera illiterate view for you. ;)The Lord has blessed you with a beautiful talent here and I just think all your photos are lovely!!

Thanks for your input, Kenzi! Sometimes, I think that non-photographers and non-artists give a great perspective from their spectator view. ;)
Aw, thanks for your encouragement. I don't have a natural "eye" for photography so learning to look at weeds blowing (and which angle to take that picture) has been something I've had to consciously make an effort to do.
I like the warmth of the third one as well. Though, I guess it's the fact that I worked on all of them that I like them all for different reasons. ;)

"But be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." James 1:22
Let's see ... I think the second one wins out for me! :-) I like your idea of highlighting certain words by repeating them in the background!! Thanks for sharing these with us, Amanda!!
Thanks for your comment and encouragement, Melissa! I'm glad you like it. I've enjoyed looking at your photography work as well. :)
