Word Wednesday #11

"Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in Thy Word." (Psalm 119:114)
"Uphold me according unto Thy Word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope." (Psalm 119:116)

Are we ashamed to hope in God's Word? Do we hold to it only until we are challenged and then say, "But . . ." as if we are ashamed of God's Word?

Thank you for sharing, Amanda! :D Word Wednesday's are such a blessing to me!! :)

There were a few verses that stood out to me in my Bible reading this morning:

"yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart; And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain. For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people. Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you." - 1 Samuel 12:20-22,24

Praise His Name that He will not forsake His people; that it pleased Him to make us His people!! "Marvelous grace of our loving Lord . . ." May we not turn aside from following Jesus, but serve Him in truth with all our hearts, fear Him and Him alone, and consider all that our Lord has done for us!!! "Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered." (Psalm 40:5)

And:
". . .for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." - 1 Samuel 16:7b

The Lord looks upon the heart; He knows true motives, true feelings, and everything about all of us. We can try to "see" and guess motives in others, etc., but only Jesus really knows the hearts. :)

Love you!

"In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." Jeremiah 23:6

This is such a wonderful verse to me. On days when I'm "trying" to do the right thing, I just need to remember this verse. It's not about my trying or being good enough. It's about Christ's righteousness covering my sins and as a result I desire to serve Him and please Him.

Praying for you!

Thanks for those wonderful verses from Psalm 119, Amanda! These are some verses Jesus gave me about the Word this week.

"Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." ~ Isaiah 55:7-11

A promise from the mouth of the LORD that we can stand on. Though we may not understand His ways or thoughts, we can KNOW that His Word will not return to Him void, but will accomplish that which He pleases!

@Patience,

I'm grateful to hear that Word Wednesdays are blessing you. :) I've been blessed as well - especially to read everyone else's verses. :) Oh that we ever have God's Word before us!

What a sober warning from 1 Samuel! And yet how we need it - our hearts are ever tempted by the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and pride of life (1 John 2:15-17). Amen - how great is our God, full of grace and mercy! How I daily need it!

And a good reminder from 1 Samuel 16:7 -- I have that verse memorized and review it regularly.

@Janell,

Ah, so very, very true! Thank you for the reminder, because it IS so easy to get trapped into "trying to be righteous of my own." Amen.

@Kenzi,

I love that passage in Isaiah because it 1) Convicts (let the wicked forsake his way), 2) Reminds us of our flesh compared to Almighty God, and 3) Promises the power of God's Word. Thank you for sharing . . . it is one of my favorites . . .(no, I don't know how many I have ;))
