Word Wednesday #13

"O send out Thy light and Thy Truth:
let them lead me;
let them bring me unto Thy holy hill,
and to Thy tabernacles.
Then will I go unto the altar of God,
unto God my exceeding joy:
yea, upon the harp will I praise Thee,
O God my God."
(Psalm 43:3-4)

God sends His light and truth, we must allow their guidance in our lives, and when they lead to God's altar and sacrifice, we will be able to go, trusting in and praising God.

"But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live."

In this passage God had commanded the inhabitants of the city of Jerusalem to surrender themselves to the Chaldeans and not fight against them or defend the city when they attacked it. This seemed like a foolish and weak thing for the Israelite warriors to do and they rebelled against the idea. The point is, when we obey the Lord and walk in the light that He shows us (as was referred to in the verse that you posted) that is the safest and best thing to do even if it doesn't make sense to our finite understandings.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding." Prov. 3:5

Thanks for these verses, Amanda! The part about God's light and truth leading us stood out in particular to me.

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." James 1:22-24, & 27

God is most pleased when we are doers of the word, and not mere hearers. To be a doer means we order our thoughts, actions and priorities in step with His commandments. It's not always easy, but with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Those are wonderful verses! Thank you, Amanda! :)

This verse stood out to me last night:

"But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold." - Job 23:10

It is so wonderful that the Lord knows our way; that He knows the way that we'll take. And oh,when trials come, may we come forth as gold!!

"That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory" - 1 Peter 1:7-8

Word Wednesday's are a blessing to me! :)

Love you!

@Janell,

Amen; how we daily need that reminder. How many, many times we should obey God even {especially!} when it doesn't make sense to our finite minds!

@Kenzi,

James 1:22-27 is a great passage to keep ever before us. And even though I have it memorized, I need to be reminded of it more and more. It is like a friend and I were discussing the other day:
Me - "How much of this verse should we apply?"
Friend - (quickly) "All of it!"
Me - "But the problem is . . . we don't."

We know the answers, we know what the Bible says . . . but do we do it? There is a big difference between knowing and doing! Oh that the Lord may help us desire to be better doers of His Word.

@Patience,

Job 23:10 really struck me last time I read it too - but keep reading the next two verses; they're great as well (speaking now of our responsibility). :)

Thanks for sharing!
