Word Wednesday #80 | Link-up

"The Lord is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity...Behold, O Lord; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death." Lamentations 1:18,20

The repentant heart acknowledges that the difficulty is because of rebellion, that God is righteous to judge. Unrepentance grieves over the troubles, but doesn't acknowledge their rebellion which caused it.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways. Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord. Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the Lord of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house. ~ Haggai 1:7-9

How often do I consider my ways? The world tells us when things aren't going well that we should just work harder or smarter. While trials are not always the result of sin, we would be wise to use them as a time to pause and ask the Lord if He is truly being glorified by our priorities.
