Thoughts of Love . . .

I've never been much of a Valentine's Day fan (and no, it's not because I'm "still single" :)). However, one of my friends asked me about doing a little graphic design for her to put on her FaceBook page for February. We began discussing how important it is to focus not on temporal love, but on God's love for us. I asked my friends for verses on "love" (there are SO many beautiful verses to choose from!). Here are some of the verses that they suggested.

(Note: the quality of these are very low; as an Etsy download, the quality is full resolution)

Photography Note

Hi all! My dad just informed me that he wasn't comfortable with me posting pictures of my siblings online publicly (as in individuals). I can see his wisdom in this choice so if you're looking for the photoshoots I've posted previously, you won't find them. I may begin a private photography blog and will let you know if that proceeds. Thanks for understanding!

A Prudent Man

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. (Proverbs 22:3)

It is interesting to note that most often the opposite of a fool (who is made known by what/how often/how he speaks) is a prudent man. Prudent means "cunning" (Hebrew word aruwm). [There are other references for "prudent" in the Bible which uses a different Hebrew root word - I'm just looking at these few]

A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame. (Proverbs 12:16)

A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. (Proverbs 12:23)

Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly. (Proverbs 13:16)

The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit. (Proverbs 14:8)

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. (Proverbs 14:15)

The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. (Proverbs 14:18)

Word Wednesday #39

"Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." (Mark 9:23)

Ironically, we must believe this verse - we must believe that all things are possible when we believe.

The Whole Armour | Ephesians Study

Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Put on - NT:1746 enduo (en-doo'-o); from NT:1722 and NT:1416 (in the sense of sinking into a garment); to invest with clothing (literally or figuratively):

Whole armour - NT:3833 panoplia (pan-op-lee'-ah); from a compound of NT:3956 and NT:3696; full armor ("panoply"):

Stand - NT:2476 histemi (his'-tay-mee); a prolonged form of a primary stao (stah'-o) (of the same meaning, and used for it in certain tenses); to stand (transitively or intransitively), used in various applications (literally or figuratively):

Wiles - NT:3180 methodeia (meth-od-i'-ah); from a compound of NT:3326 and NT:3593 [compare "method"]; travelling over, i.e. travesty (trickery):

Just as a medieval warrior would careful dress, ensuring that his entire suit was put on correctly and fit well, so we as believers should deck ourselves with the armor of God. Unless we use all of the armor God has provided for us, we will not be successful against the trickery of the devil. This armor is available to all of God's children - but each child has a choice whether or not they will put it on. Even those who put it on one day might neglect to put it on another day. There is the need for us to daily slip into the armor God has provided for our protection and chivalry.

Snapshots

Not every week is free to spend a few hours with photoshoots and editing. But, as my photographer brother reminds me, the important thing is to simply use the camera. So, here are some shots that I took between January 15-20 just around the house. The Lord has allowed our family to begin building a house and it has fallen into my hands to document the journey. As I'm just taking "snapshots" of our days working, why not have a little fun? Here's a little tip for those of you whose photography interests lie only in family fun: try to zone in on individuals so that when you see the picture, you are not distracted with everything else going on.

Without more jabbering, here are the pictures.

Sawdust flying - oh yeah!

Sunbeams really have me captivated right now - probably because I just figured out how to capture them on camera

Sunbeams. What can I say?

For those of you who are making snowmen right now, enjoy our Southern rendition :)

I'm supposed to be capturing the buliding process not the sunset? Oh. Whoops!

The clouds were just amazing. And the walls? Super exciting!

Someone may or may not have eaten almost the whole bag of peanuts . . .

Word Wednesday #38

"For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened." (Mark 6:52)

It is almost encouraging to read this of the disciples. Jesus was patient to teach and mold them when their hearts were hard. He did not give up on them at this point, but continued to work in their hearts.

Be Strong in the Lord | Ephesians Study

Ephesians 6:10
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Finally - after instruction to the church and individuals, Paul is wrapping up his letter with final thoughts.

We are not to find strength within ourselves and our abilities, but our strength comes from the Lord.
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)

"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

"That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;" (Ephesians 3:16)

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13)

"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you." (1 Peter 5:10)

As long as we walk in our strength, we are but weak and powerless.

Pictures from December

Here are some random pictures from December that I recently got around to editing.

Taken with a Nikon D90 (no, I don't own a Nikon, but my pastor's wife lent me hers to help her learn how to use it):

Tree roots:

And old, dilapidated barn down our road:

And . . . pictures of people! (Sidenote: remind me not to take pictures of people in full sun again as it creates horrible "hot-spots" and harsh shadows on their faces :))

Walking down the road with friends:

And more pictures with my family and friends:

What have you taken pictures of recently?
