Word Wednesday #22

"Teach me Thy way, O Lord,
and lead me in a plain path,
because of mine enemies."
(Psalm 27:11)

Following God is not complex . . . unless we try to mix our way with God's way. He will clearly show us the way, but so often our preconceived ideas or worldly thoughts will mask the way.

We had a wonderful service tonight, and the basis of the message was Who God is and praising Him for it. So when I came home tonight, and remembered that I had not yet done Word Wednesday, I wanted to share one of my favorite verses.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

I love how this verse expresses so much, in so few words. I could pretty much dwell on it all day and not sound it's depths.

Just one more verse from the Psalm that the study was from tonight.

"Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable." Psalm 145:3

I'm with my reading in the Psalms, and they are so comforting and encouraging. Two verses that stood out to me today and a few days back.

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22)
This was when I was concerned about two things one Saturday, and God gave me this verse.

Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies. (Psalm 60:1)
It encouraged me and my family in the daily battle and grind of life, to press on because God will give us the victory.

Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. (Psalm 62:8)
This also encourages me when I am down and reminds me that I have to trust Him for everything, and I can pour out my heart before him.

Thank you for these midweek Word Wednesdays!

Thanks for sharing, Amanda! Another great verse from Psalm 119!! :)

"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart."
Genesis 6:5-6

Anytime I read these verses, the last part of verse 6 always makes me stop. In just a few generations God's perfect universe had been polluted until it was it was beyond recognition. "Very good" had become "corrupt before God" and "filled with violence". As bad as things are today, I don't think there is anyway we can imagine the wretchedness of the pre-flood world. And the result? God was grieved at His heart. Not angry - which would have been His righteous right - but grieved! What does this tell me about the heart of God? Here He can look on the worst period of human history and His reaction is deep, heart-wrenching grief and repentance towards what He had created. Such a response can come only from a divine heart which is equally perfect in love and holiness. If God felt so then, how must He feel today about the corruptness of sin? And more importantly, does seeing the corruptness of sin cause my heart grief like it does God's?

@ Janell,

Ah, don't we all need reminders to praise the Lord more? (That reminds me of the session Bro. Thomas did on praise for Youth Camp) Thanks for sharing those beautiful verses!

"By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His Name." (Hebrews 13:15)

@ Becky,

The Psalms are so comforting and encouraging - I love reading at least one every day! :) Thank you for sharing the verses that God brought to your attention - I love them!

"The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, yea, I have an goodly heritage." Psalm 16:6

@ Kenzi,

It is definitely sobering to think about the corruptness of man before God's holy eyes - and yet, and yet! How great is God's mercy to give us the help that we need to become just in His eyes.

How beautiful to think that our God is "equally perfect in love and holiness." And to think that we still know nothing about Him!!

Thanks for sharing.
