Word Wednesday #40

"And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them." (Ezekiel 5:6)

If we change God's Word to say what we want it to say and then follow our interpretation, that is but refusing God's way and walking in our own way. Oh, we must be so careful to be sure that we are following God's Word and His Word alone!

Thanks for sharing, Amanda! When I read this I thought, "Wow - that could go along with what I was planning on sharing today..."

"And there was a man of mount Ephraim, whose name was Micah.
And the man Micah had an house of gods, and made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.
In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
And there was a young man out of Bethlehemjudah of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there.
And Micah consecrated the Levite; and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah.
Then said Micah, Now know I that the Lord will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest."
~ Judges 17:1, 5-7 & 12-13

Despite his blatant idolatry which would eventually cause the whole tribe of Dan to sin (Judges 18), Micah thought God would overlook his sin for the little bit of good that he incorporated into his idol worship. It's easy to identify this same attitude in our idolatrous culture, but what about in my own life?
Do I serve God will full obedience or mix in just enough to satisfy "the letter of the law"?

This is nothing new, but these are two verses that were going through my head today that the Lord is continually trying to teach me.

"Redeeming the time, because the days are evil." Ephesians 5:16

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8

@ Kenzi,

The story of Micah always . . . well, frustrates me. :) But as you brought it to the main point: how do I see examples of this in my life? Very thought-provoking. Thanks for sharing!

"Therefore turn thou to thy God, keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually." Hosea 12:6
