So, a few months back, I shared the first line from Paige Torn.
Within the last few weeks, I've read books two and three, so was going to feature just one of them. But then... why not all three? So here you go: the other two.
I initially didn't think I'd like reading first person, present tense, but it worked for the series. If you'd like, my full review are up on Goodreads for books one, two, and three.
What's the latest series that you've read in full?

Open a book and share the first line!
The first line on my blog this week is from Toni Shiloh’s latest book ‘Returning Home’. I’ll share with you here a book that I just started reading last night.

A London lady never sallied forth unchaperoned. Least of all to a place with the reputation of Vauxhall Gardens. — First Comes Marriage by Amanda Barratt
The Regency Brides Collection
Happy Friday! I want to share the first line from the first chapter instead of from the prologue: (This is a REALLY fun book to read!)
ReplyDeleteA New Shade of Summer by Nicole Deese:
"I jiggled the locked doorknob again and wished, not for the first time, that it was legal to use tranquilizer darts on adolescent boys."
These look super good! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'm featuring Lu. by Beth Troy on my blog today, but here I shall share the book I'm currently reading.
"They rode in silence, the murmur of Alex's expensive late-model white SUV lulling Astrid into drowsiness."
-Colors of Christmas by Olivia Newport
Happy Weekend!
Probably the last series I finished was your Tales of Faith books.
ReplyDeleteFirst line comes from Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes.
On rocky islands gulls woke. Time to be about their business. Silently they floated in on the town, but when their icy eyes sighted the first dead fish, first bits of garbage about the ships and wharves, they began to scream and quarrel.
This kinda tickles me because reading this paragraph doesn't exactly seem to set the scene for a Revolutionary War story. Maybe that's why it took me so long to actually get into the story, but when I did I was in love ;) I'd give it a 4 star because of two scenes and a couple words. But otherwise I really enjoyed it!
I love Erynn's books. I'm not sure what it is about them but they are some of the few I can read over and over and not get tired of them.
ReplyDeleteI shared the first line of April McGowan's Hold the Light today.
Here's the first line of the book I just finished reading:
"How can I help?"
from The Austen Escape by Katherine Reay
The book I'm featuring on my blog is Perfectly Matched by Maggie Brendan. However, the book I will share here is Fire and Ice by Mary Connealy. "The bullet spit dirt up in Gage Coulter's eyes, and he didn't even flinch."
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun book! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteJust finished The Captivating Lady Charlotte by guess who? Carolyn Miller! Number two in this Regency series!
ReplyDeleteThe room glimmered with a thousand points of sparkling light, the bright glow from the enormous crystals-dropped chandelier glinting off heavily beaded gowns, ornate mirrors, and the desperation shining in dozens of pairs of eyes.
The last series I finished was Kristi Hunter’s. The final book was An Inconvenient Beauty. The whole series was fabulous.

ReplyDeleteMike Dolan was snoring when the telephone rang. Fly Away by Lynn Austin
First person present tense doesn't work for all stories - there needs to be a strong character voice to make it compelling. I find it a little jarring at first, but if the writing is strong, I soon forget about it. This trilogy sounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm sharing from a novel written in first person over on my blog this week - The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner (although it's past tense). Another compelling voice!
Love the covers! Happy Monday!
ReplyDelete@ Trisha – Ooh, great first line! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDelete@ Becky – I love reading fun books!! :) And I love that first line!
@ Rebecca – you’re welcome! I got to read “Colors of Christmas” and really enjoyed it!
@ Ryana – aw, fun to be on your “last finished series” list! :) You know, that is one book that I’ve not read yet. I think when I was younger, it was because of the language/scenes but I think I watched a movie. Been years ago.
@ Suzie – I think I could reread these, too. :) Ah, “The Austen Escape.” That book so intrigues me!
@ Annaliese – Mary Connealy is so on my list to read!
@ Andi – thanks!
@ Paula – oh, I so need to read that series!!!! And I’ve read a couple of Hunter’s books… I’m about to get another one!! :D
@ Caryl – ooh, Lynn Austin! I’ve enjoyed her books that I’ve read, but I haven’t read “Fly Away” yet.
@ Iola – very true! I had a hard time getting into the first book, but once I got used to the style, I really liked it.
@ English Mysteries – thanks for commenting!
