Day three--halfway through already!!
Hop on your bike and stop by Rebekah's blog then continue traveling through all of the other lovely book bloggers. Better have a heavy-duty bicycle, cause I'm fairly certain your TBR list is going to be towering! Especially because today is series day... that means if everyone else is like me, I'm not recommending five books but five series which, in my case, is seventeen books!! :o
Viking Quest Series by Lois Walfrid Johnson
I'll start with a series for the kids. Out of all of Johnsons' series (which, I do recommend them all, but that would be stretching the rules of "five favorites" just a little, but just so you have it, look up her Riverboat/Freedom Seekers series and Northwoods Series), this is the most kid-friendly. The other two series have a little more boy/girl stuff in them, but this one saved it until the last book, and even then, felt wholly acceptable.
These also happen to be the latest Johnson series that I've read so it's freshest on my mind AND I have reviews of them on Goodreads.

Culper Ring Series by Roseanna White
The Culper Ring highly fascinated me. I do just like Roseanna White, I'll admit. Some of these I liked more than others (book one is probably my favorite... I mean... Winter!!!). You can read my individual reviews on Goodreads.
Time of Grace by Alicia Ruggieri
Have you ever read a series where all you could think was, "This was just the most sweet series ever?" That's this series. Heart-aches and pain throb through the pages, but never without the hope of God's grace.
Ancient Words by A.M. Heath
This series. If you like the War Between the States era, put these on your list. And even if you don't, still put them on your list. ;) Clean and historically accurate, these definitely belong on my top-five favorites list.
Serena Jones by Sandra Orchard
I'm still trying to figure out why I like this series so much. ;) There are a few elements that I usually don't like (love triangles and not the most well-written for two), but they are just the kick-back-and-relax-and-read books. With a good bit of humor to boot.
Now for the fun part:

Esther Reid by Isabella Alden
...to name a very few;)
I really want to read the A Time of Grace series! :)
ReplyDeleteI loved Culper Ring Series (except for the last book) and the first book in the Time of Grace series. I can't wait to read some of these others.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I've read any of those. I did start the first Time of Grace book, but couldn't finish it. I've wondered if I'd like the other two though. And I've heard a lot about Lois Walfrid Johnson's books. I might have read some when I was really young, but I don't know.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Do your bikes have sturdy crates for our books or just flimsy baskets? ;)
I've only heard of the viking series, and I still need to read it... So many books! :D
ReplyDeleteThose historical fiction series's are inciting me. :) The Depression and Civil War eras just might be my favorite time periods! (Along with Revolutionary War) I think we have "Raiders from the Sea", but I haven't gotten around to reading it.
ReplyDeleteCutePolarBear
Viking Quest, hooray! I think it's so fun that we have that favorite in common. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe viking Quest series is so good! I haven't read them in so long! I shall have to pull it off the shelf......
ReplyDeleteLiberty
I read one of the Northwoods books by Lois Walfrid Johnson and liked it, but I never did get my hands on any of her others.
ReplyDeleteI am determined to read The Time of Grace series soon. I've been hearing about it for several years now and have been longing to buy all three!
I've never read any of these books! I've been saying this a lot as a cruise through the posts today ... most of the series are unknown to me! Although I actually have A Fool and His Monet from the library now. :)
ReplyDeleteHaven't read any of these but I love the covers for the Culper Ring series!
ReplyDeleteVIKING QUEST VIKING QUEST VIKIIIINNNNGGG QUUUEEESSSSTTTT!!!!
ReplyDeleteLois Walfrid Johnson is one of the best. Authors. EVER.
I love the Viking Quest series, too! That one might be top on my series list. I also enjoyed the Knights of Arrethtrae series by Chuck Black, and SImply LOVED the Young Underground by Robert Elmer--unfortunately, I don't think the Young Underground books are in print anymore. I haven't read any of these series in a while, though. I also remember not enjoying the Young Underground books as much when I re-read them years after my first experience; maybe it's one of those things where you thought it was super intriguing when you were young, but as you get older they become cheesy. So maybe they're not as good as I remember :) I'd really like to read them again and find out. I haven't read any other of your series recommendations, though. The Serena Jones series looks like they would be fun to read! I hope you have a great rest of your day :)
ReplyDeleteNeat! A series I love is "The South Seas Adventures" or sometimes called "The Abby Series" by Pamela Walls. It's a Christian Adventure series (8 books) that I adore and have read many times! :D
ReplyDeleteOf these I have only read the Viking quest books, but those are good
ReplyDeleteViking Quest! Those are so good! I need to read them again!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the rest of these! All these new books!
Here are 5 of my favorite series *no preference/order intended* :
ReplyDelete1. Little Women Series.
2. Anne of Green Gables Series.
3. Grandma's Attic Series.
4. What Katy Did Series.
5. Little House on the Prairie Series.

I really want to read A Time of Grace series!
ReplyDeleteThe Culper Ring series sounds good!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I really like your blog background! :)
Ohhh,I LOVE the Viking Quest series!! I enjoyed the first "Time Of Grace " book, and I can't wait to read the next two!
ReplyDeleteI've got "A Fool and His Monet" waiting to be read on my Kindle. I saw it on a free promotion after you mentioned it on your blog, so it's on my TBR list. ;)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite series? I'm sure I'm forgetting my favorite one, but here are a couple I like (in no particular order):
1. Sam Campbell's Living Forest series (How's Inky, A Tippy Canoe and Canada Too, Fiddlesticks and Freckles, etc.). These are from the '60s (?), written by someone who lived with his wife on an island in a nature preserve during the summer. His records of the antics of all the wildlife around his place are quite amusing, and these are refreshing books that encourage a love for God's creation.
2. Arty Anderson series (by Mark L. Redmond). I liked them, for the most part. Very good writing style, nothing really objectionable in them, Christian, and consequences for disobedience. I know I'm not doing them justice... Very good characters!
3. Scout: Secret of the Swamp (by Piet Prins) The first book is the best, about a youngster in occupied Holland during WWII and his German Shepherd. Really good, nothing objectionable, Christianity included, excitement, and the good guys win. =D Oh, wait, did I tell you the ending? Hmmmm. =P
Thanks for the recommendations!

I really enjoy reading your posts about what books you like. I too love the Grandma's Attic series books. They are a top favorite!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week!

@ Ryana – great list! I’ve read “Esther Reid” (the whole Reid series, I think), but that’s all from your list. ;)
ReplyDelete@ Faith – oh, you should! The first book has a little more detail, but after that it’s great!
@ Sarah – yeah, the last book was a little dark. Book one was my absolute favorite! And I agree on the first book of the Time of Grace trilogy too. :)
@ Rebekah – the other two in the Time of Grace series are much “tamer.” I was wondering if it would go too far, but after the incidents in book one, the other two books were basically the “aftermath” and nothing was mentioned or gone into detail again. Haha!! My bike definitely would need crates. Wooden crates. Built by my daddy and brothers. ;)
@ Crystal – ooh, yes! I’ve only recently read it and loved them!
@ CutePolarBear – they are some great eras!
@ Kate – I know!!! :)
@ Liberty – I’m still hoping to get my own copy of the Viking Quest series. I was ecstatic when one of my friends bought them (I actually borrowed them in January and still have them cause she’s read them and doesn’t need them back yet…)
@ Kelsey – I like Lois Walfrid Johnson as a just “sit down, relax, and read some kid books” type of books. :) Alicia’s books are great!
@ Kellyn – ooh, a lot of new books for you then. ;) “A Fool and His Monet” was so fun!
@ Bethany – yes, those covers. <3
@ Kaitlyn – YES!! She’s probably my favorite child’s author.
@ Jewels – my sister recently discovered Chuck Black. I want to read him someday. That is very true about the series that are “wonderful” when younger and “horrible” when older. Part of the reason I hesitate to re-read things. ;)
@ Olivia – Ooh, I should check those out!
@ Megan – yes they are!
@ Anonymous – you should. ;) I want to reread them myself.
@ Katja – thanks for sharing your list! Out of those I have only read Little Women series, Grandma’s Attic series, and Little House series.
@ Horselover – you should!
@ RebekahAshleigh – it was a great read! Thanks. <3
@ Jesseca – haha! Yes. :) The other two Time of Grace books are better than the first, in my opinion. ;)
@ Liberty – oh yes, I got it free too (after I had read it). I’m hoping to get the paperbacks sometime. I’m not sure why I liked them so much… I think they were just a good, sit-back-and-relax series for me. Oh! We have Sam Campbell’s books, but I haven’t read them (I heard portions of Mom reading them out loud to the younger ones for school). Thanks for sharing your favorites!
@ Ashley – thanks! Grandma’s Attic was fun!
