Okay, so it's just time when musicians start thinking of that most-wonderful time of the year. ;) I'm hoping to stock up on Christmas arrangements at WAJN but I need some suggestions. So...
Go Tell It On the Mountain! That's one of my favorites It helps that the Hymnworks Christmas album paired it with a really delightful classical piece.)
O Come All Ye Faithful has all the comfort of Christmas, and Joy to the World the rejoicing of Christmas. O Come, O Come Emmanuel has a beautiful, haunting feel to it, and Silent Night is just calm. I'd better stop. =D
Liberty Bluebelle
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
(Oh, the music for this verse is nice too. Handel, I think...)
@ Ryana - ah, such a great list! :D I'm hoping to arrange some of those this fall!
@ Liberty - "For Unto Us a Child is Born!" I was JUST thinking about doing a piano arrangement of that. I wonder if it's been done before? (I imagine so... I just like to think that I'm the creative one ;) ) Great list and analysis of the music--so true!
@ Sharon - those are both beautiful ones!
@ Darcy - haha! So very true!! :) There are many beautiful ones!
@ Paula - thanks for the suggestions! Those all have such great melodies!
@ Kayla - yeah... love them all too. ;) "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" is a newer-known one for me. It's so beautiful!
@ Susan - yes, it is so hard to stick to one favorite for all time!! :)
I really like Hark the Hearald Angel Sing and Did you Hear What I Hear? That would be great if you could make them duets for advanced piano students. :) I have never played Did you Hear What I Hear, but would love to. It seems like it could be such a fun song to play. :)
Handel's "Messiah" has my favorite Christmas music ("For Unto us a Child is Born", "Glory to God in the Highest"). I also like "Hark! the Harald Angel Sings", "Joy to the World" (heart eyes!), "Good Bless ye Merry Gentlemen", "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day". . .
Thank you for stopping by! I pray that you have found something that encourages you today. Thank you for taking the time to give me a little comment - they always brighten my day. :) I usually stop by and reply to as many comments as I can, but sometimes it takes me a week or so. But if you asked a question, be sure to check back!
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)

"The Wexford Carole" is by far my favorite. And on a more modern note, "Mary Did You Know."
ReplyDeleteOh, can I say just any and all? I love Christmas music!
ReplyDeleteBut "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" and "Huron Carol" are some of my favorites. :)

Mary Did You Know is my current favorite. I like most Christmas carols, so it changes from time to time.
