For the month of March, I think I’m going to do first lines by my favorite authors. :) I’ll start with one of my newer top-ten favorite authors: Kim Vogel Sawyer. I have read three of her books, and this last one I read is my favorite so far!
“Hey, Theo, didja hear the
news?”
From “Grace
and the Preacher” by Kim Vogel Sawyer
To find out what Red is talking about, you just have to read
the book I suppose.
See my review for it here.
Grab one of your favorite books near you and share the first
line!

Also, be sure to hop along to all of these
other blogs and see what First Lines they have to share!

I have several of Sawyer's books in my bookcase that I need to pull out and read. :)
ReplyDeleteAnna's Crossing
by Suzanne Woods Fisher
And the fist line is...
April 15th, 1737
"It's a hard crossing, they'd been warned. Eight weeks in a wooden tub with no guarantee they'd ever get there."
Happy reading and happy Friday!
I have several of Kim Vogel Sawyer's books on my kindle. My first line is: “Preston Tyler lowered his feet from the deck railing & leaned forward as his gaze followed the Jeep pulling up next to the Fontaines’ cabin across the lake.” From Presumed Dead by Angela Ruth Strong
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this one of Kim Vogel Sawyer's. I hope you have a great Friday!
Happy Friday Amanda! I like the idea of doing first lines by favorite authors - I may have to change up a bit on my Eleanor books for a while, even though that is all I am truly reading (and my cozy mysteries when I need a brain break!)
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing about a good first line, isn't it? It always leaves you wanting more!
ReplyDeleteLike this one, from Kristy Cambron's "The Illusionist's Apprentice":
"Agent Elliot Matthews stared down a firing squad."
:-)

@ English Mysteries Blog - I have two unread Sawyer books still on my bookcase (no wait... make that four! Oh dear... I need to do something about that!). Thanks for sharing your quote!
ReplyDelete@ Becky - great first line!
@ Andie - ah, you should. I really, really like it!
@ Sarah - Thanks! And this week, I see you've changed up from Eleanor a bit. ;) Know what you mean about needing a "brain break." :) I'm the same way.
@ Fiction Aficionado - definitely! Catching first line there!!
