Word Wednesday #65

"And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the Lord: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the Lord, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing." Isaiah 23:18

Though I know this was a prophecy, it did evoke thoughts that seemed to apply to me:
Can our treasure be holiness to the Lord when we lay it up and do not use it? This thought seems to go beyond mere money, though that is definitely applicable. But what about hoarding our time...our testimony...our talents? Keeping it to ourselves, we will miss the blessing that we may get when we give it to the Lord to use.

"Lord, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us." Isaiah 26:12

How vital to keep the latter part of the verse before us: it is God Who has wrought all our works in us. Any goodness, righteousness, talent, etc. is entirely God's Work in our lives.

  1. Very true; thanks for sharing, Amanda!

"And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation." ~ Isaiah 25:9

I just love the image this verse gives of a people who are being rewarded for their quiet waiting upon the Lord. Sometimes the wait is long. Sometimes the wait is dark. But there will be a day when the faithful will rejoice as they cry, "This is OUR God!".
