"Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the
oppressing city! She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted
not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God." Zephaniah 3:1-2
Obedience - "Thou hast commanded us to keep thy
precepts diligently." Psalm 119:4
Correction - "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth,
and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth." Hebrews 12:6
Trusting - "Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the
Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:" Isaiah 26:4
Drawing - "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to
you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double
minded." James 4:8
These are not simple suggestions for us to decide whether or
not to keep them. They are commandments - and it is our choice whether or not
we will obey.
"But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." Romans 13:14
ReplyDeleteJust another reminder that daily and hourly we have a choice to obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit, or to please ourselves.
How true! "If ye love me, keep my commandments." Thanks for sharing, Amanda!
ReplyDeleteThis was part of my reading yesterday and was so beautiful! The terrible power of God is vividly shown, but the fact that God was even willing to speak to Job reveals His, just as mighty, tender mercies.
"Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" ~ Job 38:1-7
@ Janell,
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about that verse the other day. :) How much we need it to be in our hearts and minds!

"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." Galatians 5:16
@ Kenzi,
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends wrote a song based on this passage ("Where Were You?") - I love the section in Job where God talks to Job. :) Thanks for sharing!
