"If my
step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if
any blot hath cleaved to mine hands; Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea,
let my offspring be rooted out." (Job 31:7-8)
This whole chapter is Job's cry of "If I have done
____, then let me bear the consequences." Only the purest in heart can
truthfully utter these words, willing to bear the iniquity of their wrongs. Am
I willing for God to justly judge me for my wrongs?
Hey Amanda,
ReplyDeleteWow, sorry I am so late in this (and that I missed last week). We have just been so busy, and I also feel terrible that I have not written. I have it close to the top of my to-do list. :-)
Anyway, just wanted to share some verses from my search through the Scriptures recently for names of God.
Matt. 1:23
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
I like this verse because I see a two fold significance for this name. When Jesus came to earth, He was God come down to minister to and fellowship with men; God with men. But also this name reminds me that God is with us and lives in us everyday, when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior.
John 1:1 & 7
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe."
The verse that pulls these two together to me is Psalm 119:105
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
I'll close with one last verse that I came across while reading my regular devotions.
II Cor. 1:3
"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;"
Love you,
~ Janell
Thanks for sharing Amanda! The words of Job from this chapter are very startling!! It does take someone with high integrity to speak with such confidence.
ReplyDelete"And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.
Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt." Genesis 45:4-8
In reading through Joseph's story recently, I was impressed by his great trust in God. Joseph had endured unimaginable heartache during his years in Egypt. He suffered unjustly for righteousness and now he was in a position of authority to do whatever he wished to the very men who had brought all his suffering on him. But instead Joseph chose to trust God had a plan in sending him to Egypt and chose to rest in that trust. It's interesting that there are no accounts of Joseph sinning against God (as we have with Abraham, Jacob, David, etc.). Joseph's life is a testimony of unwavering trust in God's ability to use evil for good. What about my life? How different would my life look if I fully trusted God during times of trial, waiting, suffering for godliness or when God's doesn't seem to be working in an area as I think He should?
By the way, I really missed not being able to do Word Wednesday's last week and am so glad to be back!! :)

@Janell,
ReplyDeleteNot a problem. Lord willing we'll see each other in eleven days, right? :)
Thank you so much for sharing your verses! I loved reading the ones about the Names of Jesus. I'd love to hear more about this little search of yours! :)
Also love that verse from 2 Corinthians 1. Sometimes, it's just good to sit back and bless our Lord! He is so good!
Love you too!

@Kenzi,
ReplyDeleteJoseph is one of my favorite Bible characters. I love reading about him! Very interesting point about no "evil report" - I've never thought of that before! And I appreciated the thought: "He CHOSE to trust God." It is a choice to trust Him or not (it's so often hard to see it as a choice).
Thanks for sharing! I did miss y'all last week but I know how busyness is. :) Honestly, if it weren't for "scheduled postings," I doubt I'd be faithful on Wednesdays (shh . . .! ;))
