Ephesians 5:7-13
(7) Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
(8) For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the
Lord: walk as children of light:
(9) (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and
righteousness and truth;)
(10) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
(11) And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness,
but rather reprove them.
(12)
For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in
secret.
(13) But all things that are reproved are made
manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
According to verse 11, we are never to condone the works
of darkness - they are not to be a part of our life and we are not to act as if
they are righteous in God's eyes. We are reminded why in verse 12: it is a
shame to even speak of acts done in
secret. We do not have to preach sin to get the sinner to repent - rather, we
should preach Christ for "all things
that are reproved are made manifest by the LIGHT." (vs. 13) To get a
sinner to see how sinful he is, we cannot pursue logic. Like Paul, we must say,
"For I determined not to know any
thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." (1 Corinthians
2:2)
