Word Wednesday #19

"This is my comfort in my affliction:
for Thy word hath quickened me."
(Psalm 119:50)

"I remembered Thy judgments of old, O Lord;
and have comforted myself."
(Psalm 119:52)

God's Word is a comfort to those who walk by it and trust in it.

  1. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; II Cor. 10: 3-5

Wow, these are such powerful and convicting verses to me. They talk about the battle of the will and the mind. And so many times we try to fight these battles in the flesh. Yet it is impossible to do so. These verses make it very clear that God has given us the necessary weapons to fight with (examples of which are prayer and the quoting of Scripture), and when we use them, we will gain the victory, not only small victories, but we will pull down strongholds!!! May the Lord help us to keep sharp and use the weapons of our warfare!

  2. So very true. Amen! The latter part of verse 5 sticks out to me "to the obedience of Christ." So . . . in all actuality, to NOT work on casting down thoughts and imaginations, we are disobeying Christ! Wow; that puts it in such a sobering light!

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Thank you Amanda and Janell for sharing these passages! I've already shared how much the Lord uses Psalm 119 in my life and its words are ever new. And how true about 2 Corinthians 10:3-5! Ephesians 6:10-18 is a passage Jesus has brought to mind several times this week, so this reminder from 2 Corinthians is very timely.

"The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." Jeremiah 31:3

God brought this verse to my attention during my Bible reading yesterday, as well as the rest of the chapter. God's love for rebellious Israel sparkles throughout this passage and through it we see the passionate love He has for the sinner. God's chooses to draw us with His tender lovingkindess, when He could force us to serve Him. He allows Himself to be emotionally broken over our sins, when He could smite us off the earth. And He holds out His offer of everlasting love to vilest of the ungodly if only they believe in His Son! Such love is too wonderful for me!! It is so high it covers my blackest sin and gives me - a sinner - courage to say of Jesus, God Almighty, "My Beloved is mine and I am His!"

"Amazing love! How can it be that thou my God shouldest die for me?"

  4. And thank you for sharing as well, Kenzi!

I love Jeremiah 31:3 - it is one of my memory verses. :) What a beautiful reminder of God's EVERLASTING love!!! And as I'm writing that, the word "everlasting" doesn't just mean "from now until unending," it also means, "from before time!" Forever!!

Very good points about the love of God; how great it is! And we are so undeserving.

Ah, I love the hymn "And Can it Be" -one of my top 100 favorites! ;)

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)
