Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:7-8
A few thoughts I've had about these verses:
~It is the Lord that puts true gladness in my heart. Rejoicing over something like the produce from a garden is temporal. The gladness Christ gives is Eternal!
~Safety is from the Lord - not man, government, guns, locked doors, etc. All of those will fail, but Jesus Christ never fails! There is security in His protection!!!
I read your most recent post on Rubies Like Ruth, and I completely agree!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first considered doing a blog, honoring the Lord with it was the first thing on my list. I didn't want it to be all about me - but Him.
There are so many blogs out there that are "this is my life" or "my daily journal" type blogs & I didn't want my blog to become that.
I'm not saying that it is wrong to have a "my life" blog, but blogs can be used for SO much more! Giving glory to our Creator & encouraging other believers in their walks!
I'm so glad to hear that another blogger feels as I do about this! When I first stumbled upon your blog, I thought, "This isn't a 'my life's journal' blog. It is a blog that encourages others in the Faith!"
Blessings,
Mandie
p.s. The above verse (Psalm 19:14 is such a thought provoking verse! I memorized it recently =)
Mandie,
ReplyDeleteYour comment was very encouraging, and I praise the Lord for the blessing that my blog has been to you!! Truly, He is the best reason to write!! :)
It is very easy to turn a blog into a "this-is-my-life" blog, but there are a couple of reasons why I dislike doing so.
1) First of all, it is dangerous. In the world that we live in, people are lurking in the corners of the internet waiting for some giddy, unsuspecting, gullible girl to pounce on and there have been dozens of stories where girls have fallen prey to a sad destruction. Oh how I urge any girl to be very, very cautious about the personal information they put on the internet!!!! Having our parents monitor our blogs is ideal.
2) Secondly, I would truly like to be able to say, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified." (1 Corinthians 2:2) Honestly, the cute things we say, the accomplishments we glory in, and the fluency of our words will all be worth NOTHING when we see Christ!!! As a poem goes, "Only what's done for Him will last." I fail so often in this area, but it is truly my heart's desire.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts! It has blessed me to know that someone else is out there really thinking about what they are doing. :)
~Amanda
